Miles Ahead - Live at the Zebra Cocktail Lounge - This was a live recording at the Zebra Cocktail Lounge in Bozeman, MT. The band was 3 of the original members including me on tenor sax, James Ormond on bass, Rick Maier on drums, and Gordon Neal Herman on keys with Jay Stapleton on guitar. This was from our 6 state, 3 week tour through the Northwest U.S. This recording captures a lot of what we did best - jamming our original tunes. This was an especially fun night despite me having to fasten keys on my sax with a wire twist tie. Oh the joys of being on the road...
Noah Peterson - Live at Marylhurst Drive This recording was quite an adventure. Patrons are a rare and needed thing in the music business. My old friend Tom Irey wanted to do something special on July 7th, 2007 (7/7//07). So he decided to throw a party, have some jazz, and do a live recording. At this time I was working with a lot of small combos, lots of other bands, and just wasn't around much for anything other than music. Eli Reissman is on guitar with my friend and frequent bassist, Andre St. James on the low-end. We did a musical theme with some of the pieces being composed just for this project. This is the first recording of one of my favorite tunes - One Summer Day which I still play frequently and have recorded more than any of my other tunes. It's a lovely and angst filled bossa nova. Other gems include It Takes Two to Tango - which is a Spanish Tango. Other than Andre, nobody has really been able to get that tune with quite the right feel and it's largely been dropped from performance except for an odd loop station show here and there. Of course, there's Waltz for Tom, which is dedicated to Tom Irey and fits quite nicely with the old tune "House of the Rising Sun." And then there's an especially good version of Coming Home to You, a tune written shortly before this recording for my dear wife - which was about being gone all the time for work. This is a special recording for me as it's deeply personal and my mentor, Jeffrey Dawkins was the audio engineer.
