Action Alert

Please send the following to your elected official. We're getting screwed here!

Dear Representative,

I am a songwriter/composer. I am one of those music makers that is going to be affected by the DoJ ruling on 100 percent licensing. The Department ignored the voices of copyright experts, members of Congress and thousands of songwriters and delivered a huge gift to tech companies who already benefit from egregiously low rates. The traditional and logical practice of fractional licensing -- or licensing only the share of a song a PRO represents -- by ASCAP and BMI will be done away with.

These organizations, whose combined membership is well over one millon members is against this. The American Federation of Musicians is against this, songwriters are against this, record labels are against this. I am against this. How is it that the entire music industry, and the U.S. Copyright Office, are against this and yet it still gets hammered through? This is wrong, this is killing creativity. This will interfere with, if not kill, creative collaborations among songwriters and negate private contracts between songwriters, performers, labels, and publishing companies.

We need you to come to our defense and stop this. We need you to deny with the DoJ is trying to do. We need you to tell the DoJ to stay out of our business, they are not protecting those who matter most: the music creators.

Do this, and do it now. Please.

Got a few minutes...  thought I'd write an actual post.

Things are mixed for me right now.  Web traffic is waaay up.  Thank you for visiting!  And reading.  Kind of weird, I wonder if anyone I know reads this.  I know my wife does; occasionally.  She's mentioned a few things to me.  :)  Love ya babe!

Anyway... I didn't post anything patriotic over the 4th.  Didn't feel like and there wasn't anybody online anyhow.  I think people get a little bent out of shape over things like that.  "Public perception," "good citizen," whatever...  I've never been one to fret over that.  I can't control what people think.  Not gonna worry about it.  I find most people who are "offended" aren't worth talking to.

There's a couple of things I learned whilst going to college.   I consider these two things to be crucial in assessing (judging) a person.  Specifically, do they exhibit either of these tendencies?  1.  A culture of victimization.  2. A spirit of cooperation.

Being a victim has taken on a whole new meaning in the past 25 years.  It used to mean you got robbed, or murdered, or some such thing.  Now it's a passive-aggressive tactic used in debate, employment, and life.  I had a co-worker who was doing this all the time.  But I was too young and fresh out of the Marines and had no sympathy, empathy, any way to relate to this person, and so naive that I just bought whatever bullshit was being sold that day.  I didn't know it was a mask for incompetence, rebelliousness, laziness, and stupidity.   After a few years and getting close to graduation I was sufficiently deprogrammed to be able to relate to my fellow human and was able to spot "the victim" in seconds.  I think the most lasting imprint was an in-class experience, where a women in her 50s burst into tears after a few minutes of self-introduction and self-identifying patterns in ones life.  Her quote finished with "...and that's the other pattern in my life, everyone I love dies!"

What I found most telling, was how the teacher aka "facilitator" simply nodded, and went on to the next person in the class for a repeat.  Of the 20ish of us, it was only me, the teacher, and one other student that didn't burst into tears and have a horrible story to tell about why we were the way we are.

Since then I have run into this person in many forms.  I never want to be that person.  I think it's fine to burst into tears.  I think it's fine to mourn the dead. I don't think it's fine to air that shit out in a classroom, on the job, in a group social setting, etc...  Grow up and deal with it.  Or at the very least, keep it to yourself.    Write a song about it.     But I don't want to work with you.  I can't take it.  I don't care.  I'm not gonna listen and I'm not gonna be nice about it.  Especially if you waste my time or screw with what I'm doing.  Buh-by.

The 2nd trait is almost never exhibited by "the victim."  This is what I call a "Spirit of Cooperation."  This is ironic, because I was never graded well as a youth for working well and playing with others.  I call a spirit of cooperation many things - not needing to cover the bases, or explain every little detail and nuance, or make sure I laid everything I need out perfectly so you can flawlessly do your job.  A spirit of cooperation is often having a conversation with someone who has differing political view points and you can have a rational discussion about why abortion is or is not bad without proving the Big Bang true or false.  For the slow ones... this means saying - hey can you get those weeds taken care of?  Without saying, "You need to get some gloves, a bucket, maybe some garden tools, and pull or dig those specific non-grassy plants out and remove them from the yard."   While in most jobs, that seems obvious, in the music business, those people make or break things.  And in life, those people bring you up or drag you down.  When I get trapped in a discussion with those people, I just walk away.  I don't care, and what I know, is they're going to ruin my moment.  If I'm out and about, I'm trying to having a good time, be pleasant, or I'm working.  This means I don't want to have a conversation about religion, politics, money, the state of the union, blah, blah, blah....  And you really need to know I have ZERO interest in your opinions on these things.

What I find with those who are not interested in mutual benefit, is a serious lack of concern for their fellow citizen, a fundamental lack of history and knowledge about why certain things exist and for what purpose (this is HUGE among classical union musicians), and they are clueless about what goes on in the world, everyday and has been doing on in the world everyday.  They want their feelings to be shared and to be law.

Sorry duder, that ain't how it goes.

It's tough.  People do the wrong thing.  A lot.  For a lot of reasons.  Sometimes it's okay, and sometimes it ain't.  Sometimes, it takes time for it to be okay.

You gotta give help.  You gotta take help.  There are a lot of good people out there.  Most of them are gun shy because they're been treated so badly, so much.  That's the way it goes.

This is so not what I wanted to write about.................

Wow.... it's been so long.

I don't even know what to say.

I wanted to say how awesome the acts were tonight at my weekly J&O's residency in San Antonio.  I missed my two year anniversary, back in May and forgot to tell Dave.  No biggie, I'll hit him next week.  But This Is Where Two Oceans Meet and Tidalwave Tadpole were GREAT!   I really love TIWTOM, dude has music that just hits me in all the right spots.  The new guy was great as well.  No loops, just him strumming the crap out of that guitar mexican/flamenco with eddie vettar styled vocals over the top.  Really impressed me.  And I rocked it pretty hard myself.    Solid night of music.

I love this town I live in.  This crazy city.  So beautiful, so missing it, so on it, so everything...  Everything is better in Texas.

I'm so busy all day... I'm keeping up, but the amount of work to get a recorded product really into the pipeline is significant.  It takes weeks, and the tedium of of doing it....oy!   It's a chore.

All the bands are doing well, Zydeco season went long this year. And we made some interesting new roads.  La Chichada is kicking ass.  Lots of work lately, although the summer is bare.  West Kings Highway is making strides but we can't seem to really take off and fly.  Too many variables,  it's all getting better though.  So strange to have so many options.  The LoopFests keeping leveraging themselves to higher ground; we're so close to breaking.  But it's such a crazy thing, but it's a complete niche that is a hard target.  Even one of my guys tonight was saying "I just can't stop buying gear."  I just laughed and laughed.

I want to talk about my house, my yard, my marriage, my music, everything, but there's so much to do all the time, there is precious few moments to do even this.  It's pretty awesome though.  I love my life, my home, my wife, my family, my communities.  Can't imagine what things would be like if I had kids.  Wouldn't be doing this though.   Which makes me glad I am doing this.  Somebody needs to be doing this.

And I'm glad you are paying attention to it.  If it wasn't for you, this would all be meaningless.

Well howdy,

Sorry it's been so long since I did a real blog entry.  Things have been busy, busy, busy.

Winter is always an interesting time for me.  I basically come back to town after an exhausting and awesome tour, put on a couple of big shows in San Antone, get back into the swing of things with my bands that I abandon for the big tour, hustle gigs, get my residency rocking, jump back into networking, and push through the holidays where I can crawl into bed for a week and spend a little time with my wife.

This winter has been pretty productive.  Been pushing the 2015 LoopFest videos on social media and a few of them are making some small splashes.  I love it when my artists get some attention from these efforts.  It's a beautiful thing.  Another awesome development has been my blogging for www.loopinglive.com.    I submit two articles a month that they publish at their discretion.  It's a been a lot of fun trying to work within their parameters.  My editor, Greg, has been great.  He doesn't mince words, is supportive, and has great suggestions and guidance when I need to do rewrites.  More than that, he even added a new feature for the site that he asked me do to that is basically doing short reviews of videos of various loopers.  That's been a ton of fun and harder than expected.  Mostly it's been challenging to find videos to watch that have something useful to learn from and isn't the same thing over and over and over (looper joke!).   But it makes me watch a lot of fun, interesting, and sometimes, awful videos.    The video reviews are just being rolled out, so we'll see how they are received.  If you want to read my articles they are all here: http://www.loopinglive.com/author/noah-peterson/

I did get invite to play the Mexican LoopFests in May...but I just can't swing it at this time.  I was invited to Singapore for this month, but that fell through.  I keep hoping one of these will pan out.  My LoopFests are undergoing some pretty serious changes.  It was looking as if things were going to be postponed for quite some time, until some conversations I was having with some supporters of the fests panned out.  The Southern California LoopFest is going to be at Cal State Univ Long Beach put on by the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music; it's official.   That's pretty awesome.  I'm still working on the others.  More announcements to come later.  I've got the first couple of sponsors on board and looking forward to getting many more.  This should be the year for us!

Part of the joys of this time of year, when I'm home in Texas is the joy of life and music in Texas.  I spend as much time as I can on my yard.  It's been a terrific dandelion battle this year.  Every year I pick a new weed to wage war on.  Of course, that's all pretty silly as my "lawn" is basically nothing but weeds.  But I have some grass starting to take some territory and I'm thrilled about that.  My compost pit is rocking, finally.  My tomatoes and peppers have lasted through the winter, my fruit trees seem to be doing well.  My cacti are flourishing and everything is looking beautiful.  Now that the danger of frost is over, I'm all worried about getting my garden really going before the spring rains come.  There was so much, so long last year I lost all my avocados.  Which was hugely disappointing as it was the first year the tree fruited.  I do love my yard work.

Another part is my bands.  This time of year is zydeco season as it's Mardis Gras and the crawfish are in season.  Jean-Pierre and the Zydeco Angels are hitting are usual holiday and festival gigs and have a regular Sunday north of Austin for a crawfish boil throughout the season.  I do love playing zydeco.  It's fun to get off the sax and scrub that washboard.  It's a lot of work and the drives are long; but I love zydeco....   My other band, La Chichada, is my band of buddies.  We don't play that often and we rehearse a lot.  But I love the guys and we're a really fun and different band.  In some ways we're really epic and original.  And the guys in the band have been in and around the scene forever.  My crown jewel down here though is West Kings Highway.  The band is essentially a trio - me, Johnny, and Sweet Pete.  We have a pretty good time and are an excellent band.  We have a couple new members, but they aren't really gigging with us a whole lot.  Mostly we use subs, guest artists, family members (Johnny's family are all basically musical royalty in S.A.), and the newbies to keep things varied up and rocking.  We have a Friday night residency at Sancho's from 7 to 9pm and are getting pretty tight.  It's a good band and good guys.  I'm doing a little recording here and there and get a few sub jobs; finally starting to get the phone ringing a little....glad about that.

I've also got a couple studio projects that I've been pretty busy with. O.M.N.I with Zack and Ben is coming along pretty nicely now.  Zack and Ben have a studio set up in NYC and are getting very efficient.  I've got another project with Nick Shan here in S.A., although we've stalled out for the past few weeks as I've been too busy with other projects.  I signed a new record from my old friends and former bandmates Irie Impressions and that baby is already out at your favorite online retailer.

And on and on and on.....  while I'm going through all of this mostly I'm trying to make it better for everyone across the board.  Better, faster, smarter, easier, and more profitable.  Doesn't always work...but I can always keep working on it.  And then there's the domestic stuff; house work, fixing things, working on the house (got a crappy little fixer-upper that I've greatly improved upon, but still needs LOTS of work), car repairs, hustling work, playing with the cat, keeping my marriage solid, exercise, and once in awhile, sleep.

It's not all sunshine and smiles. Had a couple of deals go south; it's the music biz and there's always jackweeds to deal with.  So I've been dealing with that as much as I can so I can be done with it.  The up side is I hardly ever run into this crap anymore.  But it's going to happen, it's the music biz.

I'm also spending a lot of time looking at web stats.  Web traffic is way up, video views are rocking, things seem bright and shiny.  Got some rare family time with the in-laws coming up and I'm greatly looking forward to that.  Get to see some new parts of Texas and get back to Cali.  Should be a great time.

I'll try and be a little more attentive, but I do get caught up in what I'm doing and tend to neglect things.

So stick around, read some stuff, watch some videos, stream some tunes, but a CD or 6, and come see me at a show!

Greetings Friends, Family, and Fans!

NEW NEWS:

2016 is flying by - we're already into February, I can't believe how fast it's going by.  I've been working on a studio project and have a good start on it, but I'm not anticipating being done with it until summer.  O.M.N.I. is getting closer and closer to FINALLY put our debut effort out.  I just finished some tracking for an ambient, electronic release - it's very different from anything I've done before and it's a lot of space-noise fun.  And my next looping release should be out soon.&n bsp; Trying to keep it all going is busy, busy, busy!

Residencies:

NEW NEWS:

Happy New Year!  2016 is already rolling and so are we!

Residencies continue for the year: Wednesday nights and J&O’s Cantina with Noah Peterson and Friends are a go for the year as is Friday nights at Sancho’s Cantina with West Kings Highway.  Both are weekly events.

LoopFests:  How can there already be news?  Simple, our first sponsor for the year is Morley Pedals, www.morelypedals.com,  I already have their gear to be raffled off at the individual LoopFests!   Huge thanks to Morley Pedals for coming on board so early!  And there’s still all the videos from the 2015 season to watch on youtube!

Jean-Pierre and the Zydeco Angels has a few changes in the line-up.  Jude Pryor re-joins the band on guitar and Jimmy Mustol joins the band on drums, Andrew Vollette continues to hold down the bass, I’m on sax and washboard, and Jean-Pierre anchors us on accordion and vocals.  This is a the best line-up we’ve had since I’ve been in the group and we’re looking forward to a great crawfish and Mardis Gras season.

West Kings Highway is adding some fun new tech to the line-up.  We’ll be having a fuller sound with some different arrangements.  We’re still working out the bugs and getting things programmed right now, but should be rolling out the new show within the month.   And we’ve got a few new tunes we’ve been penning!

SHOWS: Grab yer calendars and dancing shoes!

The San Antonio Coffee Festival is Saturday at La Villita, come on out for some local coffee and fun.  I’ll be on stage at noon with my Solo Sax Sessions!

BandVanAdventures IX - Make it or Break it
While technically I made it, it sure did feel like I broke it.  What an arduous journey this trip was.  I played a LOT of music, heard some awesome music, saw a lot of old friends, but the trip was rife with personal strif from my father having complications with his heart surgery (and still having them...) to a run of bad luck that just won't quit.  It really made it tough to be in the moment and serve the artists and audiences to the best of my ability.  Fortunately, my friends and colleagues were all pitching in to help make the shows and the trip another amazing experiece.

I've got the entire festival videos for SoCal and Rocky Mountain posted on youtube.  You can find the artist links at www.socalloopfest.com and www.rockymountainloopfest.com.  I'll be posting all of the playlists for you to enjoy in the near future.  Others are in process...

NEW NEWS

BandVanAdventures IX - Make it or Break It is a week under way. Things started off close to home with my first road gig in Kerrville, Texas for a cool winery.  Sold a handful of CD's and hit the road with a full tank of gas and a cash positive situation.  Great start!  Next came the Monday Night Menagerie at Cervantes Other Side in Denver, CO for a wild night of music to a packed house of young'n's.  That was fun!  Next was a gig up the mountain at the Little Bear Saloon in Evergreen Colorado.  And the debut of the Rocky Mountain LoopFest came and went.  Great performances to a small but lovely crowd in Denver and a repeat on Friday night in Colorado Springs.  Saturday was a day of extremes, an 8am start time for 5 hours of non-stop looping at the farmers market was followed by a nap and 9pm-1am show at The Mirage Sports Bar in Littleton with a couple of friends.   The week officially wrapped Sunday at a house party complete with music, food, beer, people, etc...  Just doing a little catch-up Monday morning and then it's off to the next state.  Literally!

LoopFests remaining for October:

Whatever works best for you!

Radio - Things are heating up on the radio for our acts.  Peterson Entertainment has recently completed a two stage promotion campaign for Roots in the Shadows of San Antonio and associated acts.  In addiditon to a mail-out of about 250 records, we sent out hundreds of emails to radio and press outlets about all our acts releasing music.  Both The Please Help and Royal Puniser are being featured on The Appetizer Radio Show for this week - http://blog.appetizerradio.com/2015/09/album-over-streams-playlist/   Additionally, Royal Punisher is currently at #248 on the Jazzweek chart!  www.royalpunisher.com, www.thepleasehelp.com

Well...here it is.  I'm about to do it again.  Another crazy giant trip around the country.  This is going to be a wacky adventure.  Not really sure how it's all going to play out yet, but it should be awesome.  I'm better prepared than I have ever been for these fests.   Last year was incredibly hard.  This year was no picnic, but so much easier.  I feel very good about things.   Got some press, got some sponsorship, got some amazing talent, good venues, ready to go with video, webpages are rocking... should be great.  Literally all I have left to do is continue my last email campaign, try to get on TV, and pass out flyers.  That's it.   This should be a lot of fun, I'm going to see old friends and music makers.    All kinds of little things are about to pop this week. I'm hoping they all make a difference.

Make it or break it.

Monday is my Sunday...kind of.  I take about half the day the off.  Unless I'm really wiped and spend the day on the couch.  I only think about the things that I do as what I do for work; which very much defines my life and my being.  In truth my greatest joys are looking at my yard and seeing the trees growing and my peppers fruiting and fretting about not having enough compost.   Sometimes I think about what I do and it seems like nothing, other days I'm shocked at my output of content.  As a serious artist that prides himself at kicking ass all day, every day all I can say say is that it's in the effort.  Back in high school I was a maniac for football. I was too small, too slow, and couldn't catch.  But I knew the game, I was tough, mean, and didn't know the word quit. I still don't.  I had a workout partner one summer, Jahn Diem.    We ran and lifted weights 6 days a week.   One day we worked out so hard I puked twice.  It wasn't significant that we would hurl on occasion.  What was significant was that a few minutes after, we threw ourselves back into the fray harder than before.  Nobody was watching.  Nobody cared.  We did it for ourselves.  I still work like that every day.   But I'm old now. Tempered with experience, a little wisdom, a lot more compassion.  From this weekend, my fingers are still tore up, I'm still short on sleep, I've already got every night this week booked with one thing or another.  I don't get any "atta boys" or shit like that.  It's a heart-breaking, lonely grind.  Yet somehow I feel fortunate and blessed beyond comparison.  I get to make music.

Half of my partners screw me, the other half are useless.  I have a small handful of quality associates who are worth their weight in gold, even if our musical rewards are only pennies.  I don't know why I do this, it used to be because I felt like it was a must.  Now it's more like the thing I am an expert at.  But still, the rewards are hollow and pointless...but the joy remains.  I love making a jam with other musicians.  I love making a kick-ass track.  I love making people stand up and scream and clap.  It's only for the briefest of times, but for some of them, those moments are an eternity.  I never devalue what I do, but the economic reality is often unpleasant.  My work schedule is 24/7. 365.  I'll grab respite where and when I can.  Thank God the Marines taught me to grab sleep whenever the fuck you can get it.  Thank God for God and the beauty and tragedy of the human experience which I try and put to music.  Thank God for those few who listen.  Thank God for those who are moved.  Thank God for my wife, who gave up much to be with me.  I did not give her a life of comfort and ease.  I am hard man.  It's not easy for her.  She gives me her best.  And she gives me her all.  I couldn't have had a better partner.  Sometimes I feel bad for not having more to offer.  But we live richly, we live well, we have joy, and love, and trust, and each other and no amount of money can replace that.  She is a good woman.  I try and be her good husband.

New News:

The Roots in the Shadows of San Antonio Vol II Season has officially come to a close.  Our end of summer bash took place last Saturday, Aug 22nd at Ranger Creek Brewery and was sponosored by Big Hops.  We had over 300 attendees and brought in a nice little bit of funding to get kick-off Roots III - PUNK in the Shadows of San Antonio.  The bands were great and everybody got rocked.  At least twice!  I'm already posting videos from the concert - here's the first one from uber-surf rockers King Pelican.  Our last effort for Roots II promotion is the radio station and media mailing to take place in September.  Remember, you can get your FREE downloads of Vol I and II at www.rootsintheshadows.com!  If you dig it, please donate to support our efforts.  If you want some swag - give here:  http://fnd.us/c/611nle/sh/61jxn2

Roots III is all about the punk.  Tony Chainsaw is our curator and is hosting shows every Third Thursday at The Ten Eleven, 1011 Ave B, in San Antonio, TX.  Visit the website for futher event details.

La Chichada is done recording it's debut record.  We're still in post-production and hope to have something for you soon!

West Kings Highway isn't too far behind either.

O.M.N.I is done with their debut project - we're waiting for mastering and this digital only release will be ready for you!

The debut of Royal Punisher "Bullets for Breakfast" is out and can be found on their website.  We'll be pushing the record to radio stations in a few weeks!

Loopfests!!!! Things are rolling.  We've got TV spots booked, artists have been interviewed, we've got zines coming out to review shows, we're up online, the FB events are active, we're reaching out to our audiences every way we can, we've got some ads running, and we've got all of YOU!  The artist line-ups are fantastic.  Once again I'm amazed by the music and tech the world is going to put on stage at these festivals. I'm so excited to see them! If you haven't made it out before, please come.  They will blow your mind.  If you've come before - come again.  Every year is spectacularly different.

Its official... I'm in freak-out mode. This happens every year about this time.  I'm getting ready for the epic loopfest season and there's always many things to do that haven't been done yet.  Except this year.

I've got it all done.  I'm on schedule, I had an unexpected expansion for one of the fests.  The logos should be done tonight. Then it's promo, promo, promo....I don't know why I'm so tense.   I'm guessing it's a few yeas of habit.  My tour schedule is pretty full.  I've got most of my bases covered.  I'm still soliciting sponsors. But everything is handled.  I wonder if I'll look back at this post in a month a have a good laugh...

Today I cranked out a bunch of video. I need to do some tweaks on the cameras.  I'm not liking the quality I'm getting.  I had it set better a while back.  I need to figure that out again.  Getting most of my house stuff caught up.  Got my paperwork caught up.  Got the horn in the shop, again.  Sheesh... really hoping I found a good repair tech this time.  It's tough getting your horn repaired in San Antonio.  Competence is a real problem down here. But I've got my Yamaha to jam on, and for once I'm nowhere near as critical about it as I used to be.

Got a little airplay in Philadelphia from an older recording - that's always awesome.  Got the new loop record done and waiting for my buddy Zack to throw some EQ on it.  And we've finished up the last O.M.N.I track which is awesome.  West Kings Highway just got a regular Friday night gig and La Chichada rehearsal are super-productive.  Got some new loopers coming down for my Wednesday night gigs and they're all great.  You tube channel is plodding along.  Trying different things with that with a little success here and there, but nothing that really makes a difference.

All in all things are really good right now.  Still, the pay sucks across the board.  That's pretty much the last missing piece.  Marriage is great, I do love San Antonio although after three years the honeymoon is finally starting to fade.  There is an incredible amount of stupid shit constantly going on that is irking me right now.  But it's 1000 times better than before, so I'm going to be contentedly irked for the moment.

Really working my ass off these days thought.  Up late and it's fast and furious on the computers.  Right now I've got a album uploading to a licensing site, the other computer is uploading two videos. I just finished an article of tips and tricks for looping performance, sent out about 100 emails, did some Roots biz, check out some tunes, clean the office up a little, did some research for some home projects, chad a couple domestic duties to handle, pimped some videos, web-page and social media updates, calendar updates.... oy. And while my body is tired, my brain is frenetic - it's not stopping...it's hard to shut off right now.  I got one lesson to teach in a little bit and then I think I'm taking the night off.  We'll see how that goes...

oy..... I think I did a really fantastic job of suppressing my mania until August.  Now that August is here... omg!   My head is exploding.    There's so much to do.  Right now, I'm on schedule and as of tomorrow I'll be ahead of the game.  I've got one sponsor on board and going after others pretty hard core tomorrow.  I've got all the fests booked, including a recent addition in Colorado Springs...dang - that's an unexpected development.

Once again the line-ups are awesome and once again utterly taking me by surprise.  Southern California is going to be on fire awesome.  The line-up is amazing. The Texas fests have new and heavy talent unknown in the looping community.  The NW is going to debut new technologies - debuting NEW TECH - something like that never even occurred to me.  We are now scientifically relevant.  The Rocky Mountain LoopFest exploded into two nights, two cites in the blink of an eye.  Web traffic is up, video views are creeping up and dipping,

I'm making some major headway for myself and (hopefully) for the loopfests, but that all remains to be seen - suffice to say there's a new looping zine in the works and I'm going to be a part of it.  I really hope it lasts.

My bands in San Antonio are doing all right.  La Chichada is kicking ass, West Kings Highway is solid and making baby steps.  My zydeco band in Austin is on very shaky ground.  I don't think it's going to last.  And I'm worried about the band leader, life has been giving him a beating.  I'm still there for him though.

The Roots project is on fire, in a good way.  Had a smashing success with our last event and one more big event on the books to go.

I got invited to play in Singapore, I'm doing a music biz workshop in Denver, my wife needs me to do more work on the house....

Gotta get to it.... not much sleep these days.  Gonna be a CRAZY fall.

Well howdy-doody...  Haven't really been feeling like myself lately.  Mostly it's because I've been tricked.  I moved to Texas for sun and heat.  Yet this spring has been dark and wet.  No sun, no heat.  It's like I'm back in Portland but it's 30 degrees warmer.   Really makes it tough to do anything. I get moody, depressed, I waste my time, I can't get things done.  It's terrible.  I don't know how I lasted 18 years in Oregon.  I do know I really NEED to see some freakin' sun though.  I'm going crazy...  If it would dry out I could finish putting my garden in and get to some home repairs, but that's not looking good.  My chicken coup was supposed to have been done months ago.  That hasn't happened yet either. Damn this weather!

When the sun shines - it literally powers me.  I'm happy, energetic, aggressive, ready to rock and roll.  I've been listless for weeks and weeks.  God help me if those clouds don't go away soon.  The only saving grace is the temperature is in the 70s and 80s.  Not cool.  I feel bad for my wife.  I try to keep this crap to myself and man-up, but daaaaaaaamn...  I really have to have sunshine.  It's no joke.  No way I'm going on meds or anything like that.  I just need this freak Texas monsoon season to fuck off and die.  My photo-sensitive outdoor light has not shut off for 3 days straight. WTF is that!?!?!

Despite my personal issues, progress is being made.  About to pop out some new releases, which I'm grateful for.  LoopFests are rolling and for the first time ever, not eating up my entire life!  My darling wife actually complimented me on how much time we've been spending together even though I'm busier that I've ever been in Texas.  That rocks.  Hanging out with her does brighten me up quite a bit.  I should stop whining and be grateful for that.

Just had a little feature done on me locally - you can see it here: www.celebratemusicsa.com/noah-peterson.html

I've also jumped back into teaching for the first time in over a decade.  Guess what?  I really like it!  First time ever I've enjoyed it.  Maybe it's just because I have a good student.  Maybe I've finally matured and mellowed....strike that, maybe I've just matured enough to be able to deal with kids.

Sometimes I just need a place to dump my baggage.  This blog is it.

Anyway - got a show tonight.  Got the hilarious and great Aldo Caldo coming down from Austin to do his thing at my residency gig.  He's gonna be great.  I'm going to try and crawl inside the music and hide inside some loops for a couple of hours until he shows up.

Here's hoping summer comes sooner than later!
